Brian has welcomed the news that Harland and Wolff is about to sign a £10m contract to construct 30 huge wind turbines and has described the failure of the Northern Ireland Executive to support the budding alterative energy sector here as one of the biggest failures of the current administration.Assembly member Brian Wilson said: “Harland and Wolff must be congratulated; they are growing in strength and providing much needed jobs locally, bucking the economic downturn. I and the Green Party have campaigned for a green economy in Northern Ireland. A Green New Deal would provide much needed long term sustainable jobs and would exploit the skills base that already exists here.”
Mr. Wilson MLA concluded: “With fossil fuels coming to an end and with our natural resources of wind and wave, Northern Ireland could become a world leader in green energy. The failure of the Assembly’s Executive to support the local alternative energy sector, while the dole queues get bigger, remains one of the biggest failures of the current administration.”
